Creating the smoothest, most flavorful, full bodied cigar possible was just something Stanford Newman wanted to do as a culmination to his 50 plus years in the cigar business.
Stanford knew that if he wanted to deliver the richest, yet most consistent full flavored cigar possible , he would have to make the DIAMOND CROWN a thick cigar. The larger ring, allowing for the blending of 6-7 individual tobacco leaves, making for an extremely complex blend of tobaccos that would assure the maximum flavor of each cigar. The largest ring sizes of traditional handmade cigars ranged as high as a 50 or 52...but Stanford knew that nothing less then a ring gauge of 54 would produce his intended results. That is why every DIAMOND CROWN ROBUSTO series cigar ranging from the 8 1/2" ROBUSTO No.1 down to the 4 1/2" ROBUSTO No. 5, are made with a 54 ring. The DIAMOND CROWN ROBUSTO PYRAMID No. 7 is even a 54 ring, something that only the most experienced and talented cigar roller can achieve. A 7 3/4" by 54 ring pyramid cigar, truly a testament to the talented rollers of Tabaclaera A. Fuente in the Dominican Republic.
One of the factors that makes the taste of DIAMOND CROWN cigars so special is its exclusive CFW (Connecticut Fermented Wrapper ). Unlike most other quality tobacco wrappers that are normally hung in barns, dried, and bulked for a single fermentation prior to being packed in bales and eventually rolled into a cigar,DIAMOND CROWN'S CFW wrapper goes through a second fermentation. Specially fermented five year old wrapper leaves are unpacked from the bale and then conditioned and graded. The silkiest, smoothest leaves are then selected and placed in bulks for a second fermentation It is this "second curing " that evens and develops the rosado color of the tobacco wrapper and this "second curing", also accounts for much of DIAMOND CROWN"S Sweet, smooth, rich flavor.
